Description:

HAMMERHEAD autonomous self-propelled towed vehicle of the OSIL brand (Ocean Scientific International Limited).

The HAMMERHEAD is a vehicle platform featuring extremely light corrugated instrumentation and designed to be towed with a wide variety of data collection instruments. This is the improved evolution of the ROTV MiniBat FC60.

It provides an extremely flexible profile system for use in estuaries, lakes, rivers and coastal areas.

The HAMMERHEAD is easily deployable by one person from a vessel of any size and works at a user-defined depth below the surface, above the seabed or in an undulating configuration between 2 depths up to 60 meters.

Suggested towing speeds are between 1 and 10 knots and typical midfield inspection speeds are between 3 and 8 knots.

The basic system includes:

- HAMMERHEAD towing body

- On-board control electronics

- The graphical interface software and the control box

- 7-conductor Y-cable

One branch of the Y-cable of the HAMMERHEAD control leaves four conductors free for user instrumentation.

The control software allows the user to position the HAMMERHEAD inverter vehicle in the desired depth range, maintain a constant depth, or maintain a given altitude above the seabed. The position relative to the bottom of the HAMMERHEAD is shown on a graphical screen and records this information along with latitude, longitude, boat speed, sail angle, time and date. An additional line allows the integration of GPS data (NMEA0183) on the screen and records.

The software supplied is independent of any software necessary to control and retrieve the instrumentation data on board the HAMMERHEAD.
