‘Nackthai’ High Speed Plankton Collector Gulf V sampler modified for better sampling efficiency
The ‘Nackthai’, rated to a maximum towing speed of 8 knots, was designed to increase efficiency in collecting mobile organisms even under ‘choppier’ open water conditions. Its net bag is fixed into a rocket-shaped tube frame that supports two electronic Flow Meters and a net probe (optional) allowing to monitor the volume filtered, current operating depth, temperature and conductivity (CTD) from a remote laboratory in real-time.
To prevent organisms from getting alerted to the approaching net no towing devices precede the inlet aperture. A ‘V-Fin’ depressor of 18 kg is included to create negative lift at the instrument.
For easy retrieval the sample is concentrated inside of a rigid PVC bucket featuring an integrated window covered with corresponding mesh fabric. The bucket is attached to the net bag by a quickly released clamping fixture.
The standard mesh size of a ‘Nackthai’ High Speed Plankton Collector is 405 µm, available mesh sizes range from 100 µm to 1,000 µm.
