EPIBENTHIC SLEDGE AQUATIC
Designed to sample epibenthic plankton.
What is it for
The epibenthic skate is designed to be towed from a boat while gliding on the soft non-rocky surface of the seabed, collecting any type of organisms on the surface or in the first few centimeters of the sediment. It is used in characterization studies of the fauna and flora of marine habitats. It is especially suitable for harvesting algae and fauna species with reduced mobility.
Structure
It consists of some aluminum skids that facilitate its sliding on the seabed and that house a stainless steel box that only opens when it contacts the bottom. This box can be single or double. The simple box is designed to place a single plankton net. In the case of the double box, it allows to place 2 nets and filter the water column at 2 different heights, obtaining 2 different samples in the plankton collectors.
Multimedia
It is possible to add a multimedia recording system on top of the skate, which includes:
LED spotlight.
Underwater video camera for a depth <200m.
Accessories for fixing to the Skate.
