Deep plankton
This novel plankton net consists of an external PVC and stainless steel frame, which houses a 20µm plankton net inside. It allows the collection of microplankton samples at any depth, even higher than 4000m, where this type of sampling had never been carried out.
New information
New information is obtained for researchers of the marine environment, on the composition of the planktonic communities of the deep ocean (below 1000 m depth). This novel information can be used in a multitude of studies (trophic relationships, molecular biology, population dynamics ...).
Opening and closing
The automatic opening and closing system is activated by the oceanographic rosette, allowing samples to be taken in a certain interval of the water column. You could sample plankton that are between 3000m and 2000m deep, or between 3000m and 1000m deep.
Clamping system
The Bottle net has been designed so that it can be placed in the classic oceanographic rosette and can use the same closing mechanisms of the other bottles. In addition, it has an adjustable fastening system that facilitates its placement in this type of oceanographic rosettes.
